August Wittgenstein (Lenhardt) put Mélanie Robert (Jeanne Vallois) in a precarious position. He originally chose Camille Razat (Claire Vallois) for the all-important Summer Concert and now replaced Claire with her twin sister.

Jeanne was nervous and excited at the same time for their first rehearsal. They were alone in the SAAL STRAVINSKY music hall. She sat in front of the piano when Prof. Lenhardt suddenly sat beside her.

Their journey started from their father’s obsession with classical music. Franck Dubosc (Serge) even has a framed music sheet of Mozart worth thousands of Francs. He placed it on their living room wall as a something to aspire to for the twins. From a very young age the twins would practice on a grand piano in their basement. Their modest townhouse didn’t have any other place for it. Even if they were living in France, they sought the best music school in Europe: Karlsruhe University of Music, in Karlsruhe Germany.

In an interview Melanie shared that they became best friends, prior to shooting. This was vital to portray the bond between the twins. She said, “The reason we do this job is to have enriching experiences and learn things we normally won’t. And are very lucky we were given the time to prepare, which is rare.”

The sisters go through a lot of challenges in the movie. Each of them discover that they could have a life apart. They even resent their twin as holding them back from the lives they want to lead. Ultimately, their shared physical bond as twins is something they can rely on. Which they can be proud of instead of running away from.
