The Festival of Champions is back after a long hiatus. The Philippines has world famous festivals such as: SINULOG (of Cebu), DINAGYANG (Ilo ilo), PANAGBENGA (Baguio) and countless more. ALIWAN is the event that brings together the best of Philippine festivals from across the country in one place. The address of MBC Broadcasting, located beside Cultural Center of the Philippines, is where all the magic will happen.

My photos here are from 2015, when Hotel Jen was a major sponsor. HOTEL JEN is located right across the CCP Complex. If you don’t see the crowds or the stage with activity, ask if they moved it inside at the Aliwan Theatre also in the MBC complex.

Throughout the 3 day event is a market that brings together the best products from around the country: Regional Bazaar from 8am-10pm, July 13-15.
One point of difference from previous years is that the Parade of floats (Grand Parade) and Streetdance competition, will all happen at the CCP Complex. This is because of the repairs along Roxas Boulevard.

Included below is a transcription of ALIWAN, history, how it came to be, from INSIDE ALIWAN FIESTA video. From official ALIWAN Fiesta fb:
Foreign and local tourists have long been drawn to the festive and entertaining showcase of cultures across the Philippine archipelago. Time constraints and cost implications have discouraged even the most rabid fiesta goers from visiting each exciting festivity.

In a brilliant stroke of public relations friendly neighbors MBC, CCP in cooperation with the Cities Of Manila and Pasay came together. They removed the hassle of traveling from island to island, just to savor the different Philippine festivals by bringing the best of the regions to a single venue. Thus making a grand cultural extravaganza.

Of course no fiesta would be complete without the ubiquitous beauty pageant. Which is a significant part of Filipino culture. Indeed, the reign and Aliwan contest has already become a stepping stone for beauty as young women aspire to fame. Modeling opportunities and even a showbiz career.

Come July 13 to 15, 2023 ALIWAN Fiesta will take to the streets of Manila and Pasay once more. Albeit on a smaller scale with the nightly festivities and the grand parade being contained within the CCP complex. Nevertheless, it is a highly awaited return and one that regional festivals all over the country have been gearing up for since the government started easing public restrictions.
