The Italian Film festival is upon us again, showing their best and newest titles FOR FREE: from the action, thriller of DIABOLIK to the unique road trip of LEONORA ADDIO showing the cityscape of Rome to the idyllic countryside of Argigento, having a total of 6 titles.
DIABOLIK (showing Oct 21), is about a super thief. It can be described as MISSION IMPOSSIBLE meets OCEAN’S ELEVEN, the stunts and special effects are very much comparable to those Hollywood hits.

Directed by the Manetti Brothers and based on a 1950s Italian comic book character Diabolik, the movie became a smash hit that started a franchise. The second installment DIABOLIK GINKO ALL’ATTACCO (with Monica Bellucci) will be the closing film Oct. 24. The third installment is premiering in Rome October 26.

Italian Ambassador Marco Clemente, attended the screening of the opening film October 21 with wife Maria Rosaria Brizi-Clemente. Speaking before the premiere, the Ambassador shared that he had fond memories of the Diabolik comic book in his youth. Which he remembered back then was rated as PG 18. Possibly because of its themes of crime and violence. These days however, the movie version can be viewed by a wider audience.

Manetti Brothers in Taguig
Festival Director Antonio Terminini, announced that the third installment Diabolik chi sei? (DIABOLIK WHO ARE YOU?) also with Monica Bellucci, will be screened here at the Venice Cineplex, Venice Grand Canal Mall, next year. Accompanying the film are directors Antonio and Marco Manetti.

He said, “We hope to be here again next year. Of course we already introduced the movies. We’ve had the opportunity to talk about what’s behind DIABOLIK. In this franchise there’s already 3 chapters of this famous comic. Started in Italy in the 50s, directed by Manetti Brothers. The third chapter will premiere in the next few days (October 26) in Rome. We hope to bring the third chapter next year along with the directors.”

Amb. Clemente urged distributors and audiences to be open to cinemas from other parts of the world, “I urge those who are in the business, those who decide to distribute to be a little more courageous. And try new avenues. European and Latin American, other movie industries deserve to be better known in this country. Let’s not be lazy and just follow the trend. Barbenheimer, was a great double bill. (Referring to BARBIE and OPPENHEIMER hits this year) But there’s so much more to discover in the movie industry. I’m really happy that we continued this cooperation. Thank you Mr. Termenini, thank you PIA. Thank you all to those who are involved in this organization. Culture needs these kinds of events.”

Antonio Termenini is director for both the Italian Film Festival here and the Asian Film Festival (held in Rome). He also works with the Italian umbrella agency concerned with film: Direzione Generale Cinema e Audio Visio.

Termenini said, “This is the second time we’ve had the opportunity to organize the Italian Film Festival at Venice Mall. I’d like to thank first the Italian Embassy and Ambassador Clemente. To host our association. We’ve tried over the years to create a bridge between Italy and the Philippines.”

Many Filipino Filmmakers
Over the years Termenini has hosted a lot of Filipino filmmakers, “We invited many Filipino film makers in our Asian Film festival. I’d like to thank Brillante Mendoza, thanks for coming. Thanks for his friendship for years with his team. Thank you to all the Filipino community of filmmakers and producers. This is a good opportunity for the Association to promote Italian Cinema in the Philippines and other Asian countries. It’s an honor and privilege for us that’s why we’d like to thank the (Italian) Ministry of Culture, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to give us this opportunity.”
