Partido Galing at Puso’s Miting De Avance held at the historic Plaza Miranda, Quiapo Manila last May 7, 2016 was both jubilant and heartwarming. Senator Grace Poe’s extemporaneous 36-minute speech hit all the necessary points in touching the hearts of the masa and thanked her supporters through out the tumultuous campaign period.

Showbiz personalities came in full force among them Superstar Nora Aunor who gave a personal endorsement for Grace. Singers Ogie Alcasid, Aicelle Santos, Angeline Quinto, Eat Bulaga hosts Allan K, Ruby Rodriguez were joined by Carmina Villaroel, Epi Quizon, Giselle Sanchez, Bayang Barrios, Salbakuta, Boobay, Maricris Garcia, Dan Bilano and Daryl Ong. Of course Lovie Poe and Heart Evangelista were also present.

The main themes of the Sen Grace Poe’s speech however are faith and family, both of which are very important for Filipinos. A day before mother’s day she credited Susan Roces for giving her guiding principles: “Ngayon araw ng mga nanay. Nais kong pa salamatan at nais ko rin ihandog sa aking inspirasyon, sa aking lakas at sa taong responsible kung bakit na ririto ako ngayon. Maraming salamat mama! Happy Mother’s Day. At sa lahat ng mga nanay na naririto ngayon pat yourselves on the back. Maraming salamat sa lahat ng mga nanay na naririto rin ngayon. Sapagkat alam ko sa lahat ng pinagdaraan ninyo parating nangingibabaw ang pagmamahal sa inyong mga anak, sa inyong pamilya…Kung nagkamali man inaamin at higit sa lahat pinapakinggan kayo. Ang turo sakin ng aking nanay ay ito: Grace wag mong walain ang iyong sarili.”

Grace distinguished herself through her strong faith and uprbringing from the other candidates, “Ako ay pinalaki ni FPJ at ni Susan upang wag kalimutan kung ano ang dapat gawin para sa kapwa. Kung papano makatulong sa mas na ngangailangan. Kung papano maging tunay na Kristyano na hindi kinakalimutan ang na aapi…Pipili lang ba tayo ng isang corrupt? Pipili lang ba tayo ng isang palpak at mabagal na walang pakiramdam? O pipili ba tayo ng isang pumapatay ng walang hustisya? Mga kababayan hindi ako perpekto. Walang taong perpekto sa mundo, pero ako ay may takot sa Diyos at ako ay may takot sa inyo. Na alam ko pag hindi ko ginawa ang aking trabaho ng tama mananagot ako sa inyo at mananagot ako sa nanay ko.”

A funny yet touching revelation was when she shared the instances when people asked why she did not look like either parent, the reality of her being adopted dawned upon her. Because of this knowledge she identified herself as among the many disavantged, disenfranchised people, “Minsan sasabihin sakin, ‘Anak ka ba talaga ni FPJ at ni Susan Roces? Bakit ganyan ang itsura mo? Kung anak ka ni FPJ ba’t ang liit mo? Kung anak ka ni Susan Roces bakit di ka sing puti niya?’. Lahat yon sa bata nakakasakit ng damdamin. Pero aking nanay sinabi sakin wag mong pagdudahan ang pagmamahal ko sayo. Kaya alam ko ang damdamin ng isang taong minemenos. Yon ang nagbigay sakin ng lakas. Na pa tunayan ang aking sarili na gawin ang na rarapat ng isang mabuting anak maging mabuting ina, maging mabuting asawa at ngayon maging mabuting tagapaglingkod ninyong lahat.”

Honesty
Her speech was centered on honesty and not making wild promises that cannot be kept. This is contrasted against Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s guarantee of eradicating criminality within 6 months and the latest a ‘comfortable life’ without providing an economic program, “Ayokong mangako sa inyo at magsinungaling. Marami tayong dapat ayusin sa ating bayan. Pero kung gagawin natin ito sa maka tao na paraan at maka Diyos na paraan. Yon ang pinaka impurtante. Nakakatakot isipin na para ipagpalit ang lahat ng ating pinaniniwalaan ka tulad ng ating kalayaan. Na hindi tayo na tatakot dito at pintasan ang maski na sino. Nakakatakot isipin na may pusibilidad na kung sakasakali man meron magbabanta sating kalayaan, na pag tayo ay masabing mali lang o may tinignan lang tayo na mali, o meron tayong kinilos na hindi ginusto ay pwede tayong ipaligpit. Mga kababayan ang mga nagiging biktima ng ganitong uri ng pamamalakad ay ang mahihirap. Bilang isang nanay ayoko na tatakot dahil hindi ko alam kung ang aking mga anak ay mapag bintangan. Impurtante na maging ligtas tayo at yan ay magagarantiya ko sa inyo.”

Grace’s courage has already been seen as the head of the Senate comittee in charge of the Mamasapano incident , “Ang isang babae ako ang inatasan sa kumite ng senado na imbestigahan ang mga pulis na nangyari doon sa SAF. Na alala ba ninyo na nangyari sa Mamasapano? Hindi naging madali yon. Ang inimbestigahan ko ay ang pulis, ang militar, ang mga Amerikano, ang MILF at higit sa lahat ang ating Pangulo. Pero hindi ko tinago sa inyo kung sino ang mga nagkasala.”
